Recent AnnouncementsView All (1)'What is Nightstar: Rogue Wings?' by GAMEBRAIN10 February -Red FiveNightstar: Rogue Wings is a modern tribute to old school action games such as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and the Star Fox series. In what seems to be an endless sea of procedurally generated sci-fi games with little to no content that over promise and under deliver (some names comes to mind), Nightstar: Rogue Wings shines as a hand-crafted single player experience with incredibly satisfying combat mechanics.
When we asked about the type of gameplay we can expect, the lone-wolf developer explains that Nightstar: Rogue Wings follows a simple formula: intensive aerial warfare, a fun and simple backstory with captivating characters, and screens filled with enemies for you to kill. Also according to the developer, even though sci-fi games are getting more and more visually appealing, most seem to have lost the focus on gameplay mechanics and on what makes this kind of game really enjoyable. That’s why the lock-on camera (similar to the ball camera on Rocket League) works so well. You can focus the action on the enemy you are engaging, and you can freely fly around your target while doing
Our impression after playing the closed beta for a bit was very positive. This will sound a bit funny but hear me out: If Goku from Dragon Ball Z was a spaceship, it would fly just like the ones in Nightstar: Rogue Wings. It's FAST and there's a lot of things happening all the time. Both enemy and friendly AI feel natural. It's an intense air battle happening all the time around you. On the Goku note, remember when the characters on Dragon Ball Z would move so fast they seem to be teleporting during the battles? This is one of the special moves in this game, and it works really well to dodge enemy fire, specially the gigantic lasers shot by the hover-tanks.
This is the second game created by Bruno Gruber. The first one is also available on Steam, and it's a Virtual Reality game that takes place in the same universe as Rogue Wings. With 100% positive reviews, it's hard not to get curious about it

NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings is a Sci-Fi Singleplayer Action Game that's all about intense aerial warfare, an evolution of the standard arcade flight model that takes you to up-close and personal dog fighting. Play as Commander Eastwood and fight a plethora of enemies controlled by a mysterious Hive Mind.
NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings’ gameplay is focused on rapid air battles. Your skills as a pilot will be tested non-stop on each stage. Fight your way to uncover the truth about a mysterious Artificial Intelligence that rules the galaxy.
From inside the cockpit or from third-person perspective, you will experience fast-paced missions. Immerse yourself in the beautiful hand-crafted environments while going against battleships and enemy fighters. Incredible particle effects and sound design awaits!
The Independents lost The Division War a decade ago. Nowadays, the Absolute Unity rules the galaxy with an iron fist. The few Independent survivors that managed to avoid imprisonment escaped to the Outer Rim. There, they live in hiding in scattered outcast communities.
Commander John Eastwood is one of these survivors. He still believes in the Independent cause, but his chance to fight for it was gone with the end of the War. After restoring an old carrier, he teamed up with three other survivors. These four brave warriors formed the NIGHTSTAR, a mercenary group ready to take on the best paying jobs there are in the Outer Rim.
THE MOTHERSHIP
The SONARA is a relic from the Division Wars, and is the NIGHTSTAR's flagship and carrier. That's where the team lives, and where the space fighters are housed and repaired in-between the missions.
A FIGHTER BACK FROM THE DEAD
RS-200 'STRIKER'
Pilot: Commander John Eastwood
The STRIKER is a modified version of the classic RS-200 pre-war space and low orbit fighter. While its original version was not as reliable as it could be, Eastwood's version was reengineered to fit much better components.
NEVER LEAVE YOUR WINGMEN
WING-DGL
Pilot: Lieutenant Dek Jackson
This advanced fighter-bomber is efficient against large targets such as the Absolute Unity's Destroyers. This ship is a robust, resilient, and well-shielded craft, but slow and ungainly compared to the other NIGHTSTAR fighters.
F7-Zero
Pilot: Lieutenant Call Adams
The F7 was modified for use by the NIGHTSTAR to favor raw speed over power or protection. The NIGHTSTAR's custom F7 consists of a stock model stripped of its armor, shields, and heavy weapons. This light fighter is ideal for taking the enemy by surprise.
A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS
BARD-O
Pilot: Engineer Daran Aldar
This repair ship is not armed and doesn't have powerful shields, so it'll stay out of combat. When needed, the NIGHTSTAR pilots will call for it, and the BARD-O will quickly fly to them and perform mid-air repairs. This is an incredibly dangerous maneuver, but Daran will try his best to keep all ships in one piece.
Commander John Eastwood was a recruit during the Division War. After many battles, the Absolute Unity destroyed the last Independent outpost thus putting an end to the conflict. John managed to escape with Call Adams, Daran Aldar and Dek Jackson. They formed the NIGHTSTAR, a mercenary group that operates on the Outer Rim, far from the Absolute Unity's reach... Until now.
This Artificial Intelligence was created to help local governments. It eventually was proven to be more efficient and better than its human counterparts. A celebration took place when the Absolute Unity gained control over the major planetary systems. Systems were safer, citizens were happier, and civilization was more prosperous than ever.
Unfortunately, that was a lie.
In reality, the Absolute Unity quickly learned a secret: it could create perfect lives for the Central Planets' citizens by exploiting and eventually enslaving other systems. It was just a matter of keeping some influential planets under an impression of prosperity and growth.
Attempts were made to overthrow the AI, but with no support from the Central Planets the insurgents were too poor to form a real army. The Absolute Unity had so many resources it was fabricating an endless artificial sentinel force to protect it. Attacks against that force were eventually proven to be futile and short-lived.
This period was later known as the Division War. It ended when the Independents fled to the Outer Rim where the resources were so scarce the Absolute Unity had no use for them. The battle was lost, and to this day many systems are still enslaved or exploited by the Absolute Unity.
Hope, however, still shines on the horizon.
